Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

The 2020 Annual Conference on South Asia, which takes place in Madison, WI, has been postponed. For more details, please read the full announcement, with preliminary information on proposals and registrations. 

2020-21 Fellowships

AIPS is pleased to announce the award recipients for our 2020-2021 Junior and Senior Fellowships! Congratulations to Rachel Cochran, SherAli Tareen, Sarah Waheed, Zahra Khalid, and Suneel Kumar. These project proposals explore Muslim history, emancipation, anthropology, urbanization, and more! Award recipients will spend 2-6 months conducting research in Pakistan, UK, India, and the United Arab Emirates. To view this years awardees, click here.

2020 AIPS Short-Term Research Grants

AIPS is pleased to recognize the 2020 AIPS Short-Term Research Grant awardees. Dr. Hafeez Malik

Dr. Hafeez Malik, political science scholar, social activist, and one of the founders of AIPS, passed away this past Monday.
