Dr. Sarah Khan and coauthors Ali Cheema, Asad Liaqat, and Shandana Khan Mohmand recently published an article in American Political Science Review titled "Canvassing the Gatekeepers: A Field Experiment to Increase Women Voters' Turnout in Pakistan." Dr. Khan's article examines methods of increasing women voters' turnout in Pakistan, concluding that canvassing male household members to support women's participation resulted in greater increases in women's voter turnout than if women were targeted with a nonpartisan get-out-the-vote campaign. A combination of both methods resulted in the most significant increases in women's turnout, with the article concluding that there are important and tangible benefits to engaging men in easing constraints around equal voter participation.
