Pakistan Lecture Series

The Pakistan Lecture Series (PLS) is a program designed to support academic exchange between Pakistani and US scholars and to promote the field of Pakistan Studies as a whole. More information about this program and application instructions can be found here

Past PLS Programs

PLS 2019
Sheema Kermani, cultural activist and practicing classical dancer, led a series of presentations at Michigan State University, the University of Chicago, and Monmouth College. 

PLS 2018
Naila Mahmood, visual artist, led a series of presentations at North Carolina University, Cornell University, and Brown University.

PLS 2014
Zahid Hussain, senior editor for Newsline Magazine, lectured at Sarah Lawrence College, Monmouth College, and the University of Texas at Austin.

PLS 2011
Qasid Mallah, professor, led a series of presentations about archaeology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Annual Conference on South Asia, New York University, and Harvard University.

Naiza Khan, contemporary artist, led a series of presentations about art and landscape at Yale University, Cornell University, University of Texas at Austin, University of California-Berkeley, and the University of California-Los Angeles.

Sana Haroon, assistant professor, led a series of presentations at Stanford University, Richard Stockton College, University of Pennsylvania, and Villanova University. She presented her work, "Reconsidering the Legacies of the Early Nineteenth-Century Jihad of Sayyid Ahmed Shaheed."

Hassan Miangul Aurangzeb, barrister-at-law, gave a series of presentations at the Association for Asian Studies Meeting (Honolulu), University of Oregon, and the University of Washington-Seattle.

PLS 2010
Sultan-i-Rome, assistant professor, led a series of talks that provided a critical analysis of the situation in Swat, Malakand district, NWFP at the Association for Asian Studies Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Richard Stockton College, University of North Carolina, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Washington, and the University of Oregon. 

Imtiaz Gul, executive director of Center for Research and Security Studies, presented his work, "The Socio-economic cost of conflict to the people of Pakistan" at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Annual Conference on South Asia, University of Chicago, North Carolina State University, Duke University, and the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire. 

PLS 2009 
Arif Hasan, professor, gave a series of presentations at SAIS-Johns Hopkins University, University of Oregon, and the University of Washington.

Imran Aslam, senior journalist, presented his work "Pakistan in Transition: The Role of the Media and its Potential." 

Khalid Masud, chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology in Pakistan, led a series of presentations at the University of Michigan, University of California-Berkeley, North Carolina State University, and Duke University.

PLS 2008 
Akbar Zaidi, political economist, presented his work "The Future of Democracy in Pakistan" at the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Hassan Askari-Rizvi, Akbar Zaidi, Bushara Aitzaz, and Aasiya Riaz all presented at the same conference at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, DC

PLS 2007 
Muhammad Salim Khawaja, journalist, presented his work "The Minority Status of Pakistan's National Languages" at the University of Texas at Austin, Conference on South Asia (Madison, WI), and the University of California-Berkeley 

Asif Aslam Farrukhi, medical doctor, presented his work "Literary Representations of the 1971 War" at the University of Texas at Austin, Conference on South Asia (Madison, WI), and Columbia University.
