Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Announcing the Retirement of AIPS-Pakistan Director, Nadeem Akbar

After 25 years with AIPS, Mr. Nadeem Akbar, AIPS-Pakistan Director, has retired. Nadeem has been integral to AIPS operations in Pakistan, and his contributions will be appreciated and remembered by many. AIPS thanks him for his many years of service.

Spring 2023: Introduction to Urdu Language and Culture

AIPS is excited to announce the launch of a new online course in Spring 2023: Introduction to Urdu Language and Culture. Enrollment is open to all interested in exploring the Urdu language and culture. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a solid foundation in Urdu and learn about the rich cultural traditions of Pakistan and other Urdu-speaking regions. No previous knowledge is required, and participants can earn up to 2.0 CEU credits for completing the course. Instruction will be in an online, asynchronous format.

AIPS is excited to announce applications are now open for our Pre- and Post-doc Research Fellowships as well as Short-Term Research Grants!

2023 AIPS Book Prize Open for Submissions

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies is soliciting books (single authored monographs, no edited volumes) published during the last three years or nearly published books (galleys must be available) for the annual AIPS book prize. The award recipient will receive a monetary prize from AIPS ($1,000). Interested applicants should send a submission form to AIPS to confirm eligibility before sending books.
