This position is located in the School of Professional and Area Studies at the Foreign Service Institute. The South and Central Asia Chair is responsible for managing the South and Central Asia Area Studies program, teaching and coordinating interdisciplinary courses on South or Central Asia for employees assigned to South or Central Asia. The incumbent is responsible for oversight of all Area Studies courses providing training, seminars, consultations and information on the region as required. Management responsibilities include planning, implementing and monitoring the program budget.
The incumbent serves as the Coordinator of the South and Central Asia Area Studies program and is responsible for long-and short-range curriculum planning, proposing and monitoring the program budget that includes major allocations for each of the courses and major activities within the program. The incumbent designs, chairs and teaches in intensive Area Studies seminars and other short courses that are offered within the South and Central Asia program. The incumbent teaches and coordinates other South or Central Asian Advanced Area Studies courses at the professional/graduate level. These courses are offered in conjunction with language training. The South and Central Asia Chair also assists in the selection and monitoring the work of outside contractors and other government employees who serve as chairpersons for courses on South or Central Asia that the South and Central Asia Chair does not teach. The South and Central Asia Chair is responsible for course scheduling and for evaluation of the work of the contractors and provides to the contractors and/or other government employees working in the South and Central Asia program, detailed guidance on the course(s) and curriculum relative to their responsibilities. The South and Central Asia Chair helps to ensure that the training needs of the Foreign Service are met. In addition, the incumbent serves actively as a resource, when appropriate, for all other training staff and programs at the Foreign Service Institute, providing area studies knowledge advice, materials, and teaching services.

The MHR Visiting Professor position is meant to bring an international scholar from South Asia to the United States.
The South Asian Studies Program at Brandeis University is seeking applicants for a Madeleine Haas Russell Visiting Professor in Non-Western Studies over the 2013-2014 academic year. We are particularly interested in hosting a visiting professor from Pakistan or Bangladesh, whose discipline could be almost any in the social sciences or humanities, including history, politics, art, women’s or gender studies, anthropology, sociology, literature, economics, public health, religious studies, etc. The visiting professor would teach two courses at Brandeis in his or her areas of interest and expertise, and would be in residence for either one or two semesters. A salary and travel expenses are provided. Brandeis University is located in Waltham, Massachusetts in the suburbs of Boston.

Lectureship in Hindi-Urdu
The Dhar India Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a full-time, long-term, renewable lectureship in Hindi-Urdu beginning August 1, 2013. We welcome applications from both junior and more advanced candidates for this position.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to the long-term development of the Hindi-Urdu program at Indiana University and to perform as a collegial and collaborative member of the Dhar India Studies language pedagogy team. Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Hindu-Urdu and English. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Hindi-Urdu to American university students, and with proven creativity and pedagogical success in the design and delivery of courses at all levels of instruction. An MA or PhD in an appropriate field is desired but not necessary. The position entails the teaching of a total of 6 courses per year (3 per semester) at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Senior Scholar of Middle East/North Africa Modern Urban Social Movements
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a senior social science or humanities scholar (full professor or advanced associate) specializing in modern urban social movements in the Middle East or North Africa, beginning Fall 2013, subject to budgetary approval. Academic field is open, and may include anthropology, geography, political science, sociology, or other appropriate disciplines; the candidate must be eligible for appointment in an existing LAS department. This hire is part of a multi-unit cluster initiative for building a program for the study of modern Middle East and Islamic Societies. As a senior hire in an emerging university research and teaching cluster, this position would offer administrative leadership in developing the outlines of a new interdisciplinary curriculum and fostering research initiatives in collaboration with existing institutional strengths in ethnicity and race, gender, labor, political economy, social movements, and urban issues.

Visual materials collections include digital images and slides for teaching as well as other formats documenting all aspects of Islamic art and architecture in the Fine Arts Library including historic photographs, postcards, and ephemera. Additional responsibilities include implementation of appropriate and forward-looking image metadata schemes, digital access, and participation in collection development and management.
