The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore, Pakistan, invites applications for full time/ adjunct/ visiting positions in the areas of Social/Cultural Anthropology and Sociology. The successful candidates will be required to teach undergraduate students and provide input towards the development and expansion of the Anthropology and Sociology Major.

The MHR Visiting Professor position is meant to bring an international scholar from South Asia to the United States.

The South Asian Studies Program at Brandeis University is seeking applicants for a Madeleine Haas Russell Visiting Professor in Non-Western Studies over the 2013-2014 academic year. We are particularly interested in hosting a visiting professor from Pakistan or Bangladesh, whose discipline could be almost any in the social sciences or humanities, including history, politics, art, women’s or gender studies, anthropology, sociology, literature, economics, public health, religious studies, etc. The visiting professor would teach two courses at Brandeis in his or her areas of interest and expertise, and would be in residence for either one or two semesters. A salary and travel expenses are provided. Brandeis University is located in Waltham, Massachusetts in the suburbs of Boston.

Lectureship in Hindi-Urdu

The Dhar India Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a full-time, long-term, renewable lectureship in Hindi-Urdu beginning August 1, 2013. We welcome applications from both junior and more advanced candidates for this position.

The appointee will be expected to contribute to the long-term development of the Hindi-Urdu program at Indiana University and to perform as a collegial and collaborative member of the Dhar India Studies language pedagogy team. Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Hindu-Urdu and English. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Hindi-Urdu to American university students, and with proven creativity and pedagogical success in the design and delivery of courses at all levels of instruction. An MA or PhD in an appropriate field is desired but not necessary. The position entails the teaching of a total of 6 courses per year (3 per semester) at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

Senior Scholar of Middle East/North Africa Modern Urban Social Movements

SUMMARY:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for a senior social science or humanities scholar (full professor or advanced associate) specializing in modern urban social movements in the Middle East or North Africa, beginning Fall 2013, subject to budgetary approval. Academic field is open, and may include anthropology, geography, political science, sociology, or other appropriate disciplines; the candidate must be eligible for appointment in an existing LAS department. This hire is part of a multi-unit cluster initiative for building a program for the study of modern Middle East and Islamic Societies. As a senior hire in an emerging university research and teaching cluster, this position would offer administrative leadership in developing the outlines of a new interdisciplinary curriculum and fostering research initiatives in collaboration with existing institutional strengths in ethnicity and race, gender, labor, political economy, social movements, and urban issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• We seek a scholar who is interdisciplinary in their theoretical, methodological, and pedagogical approaches, with a strong research agenda and a commitment to teaching and community engagement.
• Ph.D or equivalent degree required.

Vacancy - Language Learning Center Director, University Of Hawaii at Manoa

DIRECTOR, Language Learning Center (LLC), College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature (LLL), University of Hawai'i at Manoa (position #82463), full-time, 11-month tenure-track faculty position, rank S3, pending position clearance and availability of funds, to begin August 1, 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter. Rank S3 corresponds to assistant professor. The LLC advances the use of technology in language teaching and learning. The LLC's facilties include open computer labs, technology-equipped classrooms, audio and video production and teleconferencing facilities, and file and web servers. The staff includes information technology personnel, video and educational specialists, and graduate and undergraduate student assistants. The Director reports to the Dean of the College and is responsible for overall direction of the LLC. Duties

Visual Resources Librarian for Islam Art and Architecture, Aga Kahn Program of the Fine Arts Library, Harvard Library

Reporting to the Public Services Librarian, this position is responsible for research support, collaboration, and outreach for visual materials in the field of Islamic art and architecture to faculty, students, and researchers.   Visual materials collections include digital images and slides for teaching as well as other formats documenting all aspects of Islamic art and architecture in the Fine Arts Library including historic photographs, postcards, and ephemera.   Additional responsibilities include implementation of appropriate and forward-looking image metadata schemes, digital access, and participation in collection development and management. Works closely with the Bibliographer in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture and the Photographic Resources Librarian in the Fine Arts Library and the faculty and staff of the Aga Khan Program.

Qualifications:
-Master's degree in library and/or information science or equivalent experience
-Advanced degree at the master's level or higher in the history of art and architecture related to the study of the Islamic world, or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or background etc.
-3-5 years related professional library experience required
-Knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language (Arabic, Persian, Turkish)
