Vacancy - Language Learning Center Director, University Of Hawaii at Manoa

DIRECTOR, Language Learning Center (LLC), College of Languages, Linguistics, and Literature (LLL), University of Hawai'i at Manoa (position #82463), full-time, 11-month tenure-track faculty position, rank S3, pending position clearance and availability of funds, to begin August 1, 2012, or as soon as possible thereafter. Rank S3 corresponds to assistant professor. The LLC advances the use of technology in language teaching and learning. The LLC's facilties include open computer labs, technology-equipped classrooms, audio and video production and teleconferencing facilities, and file and web servers. The staff includes information technology personnel, video and educational specialists, and graduate and undergraduate student assistants. The Director reports to the Dean of the College and is responsible for overall direction of the LLC. The faculty position is tenure-track; the position of Director is for a three-year renewable term.

Duties
As assigned, serve as Director of the Language Learning Center (LLC): * Oversee the operations of the LLC, including budget, facilities, and staff. * Secure, allocate and manage fiscal and human resources to fulfill LLC's mission. * Pursue grant writing and fundraising initiatives. * Lead the college in setting policy for the integration of technology in language teaching and learning, taking into account new developments and pedagogical best practices in online learning, mobile technologies, cloud computing, server technologies, social media, etc. * Promote cooperative efforts across departments in the College that advance the mission of the LLC, including teacher training and materials development. * Facilitate multimedia-based materials development projects. * Collaborate with the National Foreign Language Resource Center. -As a faculty member: * Teach graduate and undergraduate courses as assigned, in area of specialization. * Supervise graduate and undergraduate students. * Pursue a program of scholarship and service to the University and the profession.

Minimal Qualifications
Doctoral degree in relevant field; record of experience in relevant positions including teaching/training, scholarship, and administration. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, administrators and students in a large and diverse college; successful record in obtaining external grants. Expertise in language teaching-related IT applications.

SALARY
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Visual Resources Librarian for Islam Art and Architecture, Aga Kahn Program of the Fine Arts Library, Harvard Library

Reporting to the Public Services Librarian, this position is responsible for research support, collaboration, and outreach for visual materials in the field of Islamic art and architecture to faculty, students, and researchers.   Visual materials collections include digital images and slides for teaching as well as other formats documenting all aspects of Islamic art and architecture in the Fine Arts Library including historic photographs, postcards, and ephemera.   Additional responsibilities include implementation of appropriate and forward-looking image metadata schemes, digital access, and participation in collection development and management. Works closely with the Bibliographer in the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture and the Photographic Resources Librarian in the Fine Arts Library and the faculty and staff of the Aga Khan Program.

Qualifications:
-Master's degree in library and/or information science or equivalent experience
-Advanced degree at the master's level or higher in the history of art and architecture related to the study of the Islamic world, or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or background etc.
-3-5 years related professional library experience required
-Knowledge of at least one Middle Eastern language (Arabic, Persian, Turkish)

The Program in South Asian Studies at Princeton University is accepting applications for a full time, three-year, renewable lecturer position in Urdu-Hindi. The successful applicant will be asked to teach a total of five courses over two semesters, including some combination of courses on Urdu language at all levels (from beginning through advanced levels) and Hindi at the introductory and intermediate levels.  The successful applicant will also be expected to advise undergraduate students.  Ability to teach Urdu and Hindi scripts within the same curriculum is required, as is native or near-native command of Urdu, Hindi, and English.  An MA or PhD in a related field and demonstrated excellence in college-level Urdu language teaching for at least two years is preferable.  Applications should include:  (1) a cover letter explaining the candidate’s qualifications and teaching experience; (2) a current curriculum vitae; (3) sample course syllabi, if available; and (4) names and contact information for three persons who can provide confidential letters of recommendation.
