Call for applications – Babar Ali Foundation Fellowship at LUMS!!

Lahore University of Management Science (LUMS), a world-class academic institution with a proud history of achievement, and ambitious plans for the future, is pleased to announce the Babar Ali Foundation (BAF) Fellowship. This Fellowship is designed to strengthen ties and understanding between the US and Pakistan and applicants from wide range of educational backgrounds are welcome to apply. The Fellowship will be approximately one academic year, subject to the Fellow’s date of joining.

Eligibility:
• Must be US national
• Applicants should have some interest in Pakistan and South Asia, though this interest need not be apparent from previous activities or studies.
• Applicants from a wide range of educational backgrounds can apply, though candidates with a Master's degree or equivalent work experience will be preferred

Fellowship Responsibilities:
The BAF Fellow will work as a Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of LUMS (equivalent to the president of an American university). As a Special Assistant, the Fellow's portfolio will be diverse, ranging from overseeing transformative initiatives in the University's administration to fostering international linkages with other institutions. In the past, fellows have helped launch centres and initiatives relating to gender studies, the environment and inclusive education, as well as contributed to strategy for the growth and improvement of the university as a research institution. 

Fellows will also spend at least one day a week contributing to the work of the Babar Ali Foundation, a philanthropic organization that funds and runs projects in a variety of sectors and areas, including: education, culture preservation, nature conservation and gender equality.  

In both roles, abundant opportunity exists for original ideas and creative thinking. The nature of the position demands that the candidate be self-directed, mature and flexible. In part, the Fellow’s portfolio is driven by their background and interests, so being entrepreneurial is essential to a Fellow’s success.

Fellowship Benefits:
Babar Ali Fellows will receive the Pakistani Rupees (PKR) equivalent of 1000 USD as a monthly stipend, round-trip economy class airfare to Lahore from a major U.S. airport of their choice, free accommodation in a furnished faculty apartment in LUMS and medical insurance (excluding dental) for the duration of their fellowship. The Fellow will also have use of the Babar Ali Foundation guesthouses in Islamabad and Karachi during any travel. The cost of living in Lahore is exceptionally low by American standards, and Fellows can expect to save roughly half of their stipend each month.
