Welcome to AIPS

The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Updates

History Workshops in Pakistan

Robert Nichols, David Gilmartin, and Matthew Cook organized and held two workshops for junior Pakistani scholars working towards PhDs in History. Individual projects were presented and discussed in detail, while workshop sessions also opened conversations about research methods, scholarly literature and argumentation, and recent examples of successfully completed academic History books of interest to scholars, including historians of Pakistan-related issues, themes, and historical perspectives.

Language Teaching in the 21st Century

Dr. Patricia Pashby led a series of seven workshop sessions, titled “Language Teaching in the 21st Century,” and ten individual mentoring sessions as part of the Junior Faculty Training and Exchange Program. She mentored junior scholars teaching English or other foreign language courses at the University of Education in Lahore. Dr. Pashby’s approach was “hands-on” to support and demonstrate her goal of encouraging interactive, student-centered learning.

CAORC-AIPS Faculty Development Seminar

Applications are open for the "Religion and Culture in the Postcolonial City" seminar, occurring June 8-22. If you are a community college or MSI faculty member, this seminar is for you. This seminar will provide participants with firsthand experiences of various cultural sites and practices in Lahore. Applications close on February 18th!

MoU Signing - Islamabad Club

AIPS Reception and MoU signing occurred last week at the Islamabad Club! Ms. Wajiha Akram (Parliamentary Secretary for Education) attended the event as guest of honour. Others included VC Women Univ Peshawar, Rector COMSATS, VC Gomal Univ, Director General HEC, AIPS President, Vice President, trustees and scholars.
