The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

AIPS-Sponsored Participants Attended a Fake News Conference

Jill Filipovic, Ty McCormick and Lauren Bohn conducted a series of workshops and lectures/discussions on a variety of topics related to journalism in conjunction with a conference on media in Pakistan, “Fake News and Facts in our Region” organized by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad.

"Air Quality in Pakistan" Program

Dr. Filippelli, an Air Quality Fellow for Embassy Islamabad and an expert in air quality and health, delivered a series of lectures, workshops, and demonstrations to raise awareness of issues related to air quality and build dialogs among university researchers, students, governmental, and non-governmental entities on the topic.  Through this AIPS-sponsored series of events, which occurred in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, Dr. Filippelli interacted with approximately 1000 people over the course of 11 days.

2019 AIPS Short-Term Research Grants

AIPS is pleased to recognize the 2019 AIPS Short-Term Research Grant awardees. 2019 AIPS Book Prize Winner!

AIPS is pleased to recognize the winner of the 2019 AIPS Book Prize as Ammara Maqsood for her recent book, "The New Pakistani Middle Class." The book, based on ethnographic field work in Lahore, weaves together ideas of religious identity, piety, consumption, and modernity into an enjoyable and accessible narrative. Maqsood’s work addresses key issues (e.g., religion and class) without overlooking the everyday details that entertain the reader.
