The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and education organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan.

It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.

Call for Papers - Journal of Research in Humanities

"The Journal of Research in Humanities announces a call for papers for Issue No 1, January to June, of Volume LVII of JRH. The journal welcomes analytical and critical articles of 4000 to 6000 words. Articles must be original and hitherto unpublished. Electronic submissions along with the submission form should be sent to chief.editor.jrh@pu.edu.pk."

2021 AIPS Short-Term Research Grant Awardees

AIPS would like to congratulate our 2021 Short-Term Research Grant Awardees: Hashim Ali (University of Illinois-Chicago), Manav Kapur (Princeton University), Elliot Montpellier (University of Pennsylvania), Ilma Qureshi (University of Virginia), and Natalya Rahman (Stanford University). These scholars will spend up to 3 months conducting research in Pakistan.

2021-22 AIPS Fellows

AIPS is excited to announce our 2021-22 Fellows! Mashal Saif, Clemson University received a Post-Doctoral (Senior) Fellowship. Fizza Joffrey, University of Oxford; Muhammad Saad Lakhani (Stanford University), and Sarah Eleazar Sadiq (The University of Texas at Austin) received Pre-doctoral (Junior) Fellowships.  Congratulations to this year's fellows! 

Free Institutional Memberships for MSIs & Two-Year Colleges

For the first two years of membership, AIPS is waiving the Institutional Membership fee ($250) for two-year colleges and Minority-Serving Institutions. Representatives of these institutions serve on the Board of Trustees, have full voting rights and are eligible for numerous funding opportunities available through AIPS. Please see our Institutional Membership page for eligibility requirements and how to apply!

Call for Proposals - The British Academy Writing Workshop on Pakistan to Bangladesh, 1947-70

[Call for Proposals] A Writing Workshop, funded by the British Academy is seeking proposals from early-career scholars on topics relating to the period from 1947-1970 in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The scholars selected will also receive mentorship from an international team of senior academics, either in online and physical meetings. The papers, once they pass the peer review process, will then be published as a special issue of a leading scholarly journal.
