The 36th Annual Conference on South Asia will be held on October
11 - 14, 2007 at the Madison
Concourse Hotel, 1 West Dayton St., Madison,
WI 53703. The Conference is sponsored by the Center
for South Asia at the University
of Wisconsin-Madison.
The Annual Conference on South Asia attracts
over 500 scholars and other interested parties annually,
who travel from a dozen countries around the world and much
of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska. The conference
features over 70 academic panels and roundtables as well
as association meetings and
special events ranging from performances to film screenings.
Included each year are a noted Keynote Speaker and a Plenary
Session Speaker.
The special focus of this year's conference
is on contemporary India, its culture, politics and economy,
on which we especially encourage the submission of panel
proposals. Panels on topics of general South Asian
interest are also welcome, as always.
Scholars, professionals and practitioners
with interest in any field related to South Asia scholarship,
are invited to propose panel or single paper presentations
on research or practice. Examples of research can be in any
of the following disciplines such as: anthropology, architecture,
art, history, literature, politics, women’s studies,
religious studies, or film studies to name a few. Non-presenters
are also invited to attend.
Please use the conference website for
registration and further information. Contact the conference
coordinator at conference@southasia.wisc.edu or
